Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a polymer that is soluble in water and insoluble in most organic solvents. It is very popular in the water treatment industry as a flocculant and has been widely praised in other industries for its excellent performance. However, before using it correctly, its correct dissolution method should be followed to achieve the desired effect. If the dissolution method is wrong, it will not only waste chemicals, increase costs, but also reduce efficiency. Based on years of practical experience in production, we will share with you the correct dissolution method of polyacrylamide (PAM).
Polyacrylamide (PAM) dissolution method:
1. When dissolving, it should be carried out in ceramic drums, galvanized drums, aluminum drums, stainless steel drums or plastic drums, and should not be prepared and stored in iron containers.
2. The dissolved water should be clean water or tap water, and there should be no other impurities in the water.
3. When dissolving, after injecting one-third of the water, turn on the stirring switch, add polyacrylamide (PAM) slowly and evenly, and then add it while adding water until the calculated volume of the dissolution tank is added to the quantitative polyacrylamide (PAM) dry powder.
4. The temperature of dissolved water should not exceed 60°C, because too high a water temperature will accelerate the degradation of polyacrylamide (PAM) and easily damage product performance. The dissolution water temperature should not be too low, the water temperature is below 5 °C to dissolve slowly, it is not suitable to dissolve with strong acid, strong alkali and high salt water, because the applicable pH value of polyacrylamide (PAM) is between 5-8, and the water at room temperature can be dissolved.
5. When adding polyacrylamide (PAM), it should be added slowly to the dissolution tank, not directly poured, and not quickly added, which will cause polyacrylamide (PAM) dry powder to not be dissolved into colloidal substances and can no longer be dissolved.
6. The mixing speed of the mixer should not be too fast, the motor speed should be controlled at 60r/m, and the stirring speed should be too fast, which will cut off the polyacrylamide (PAM) molecular chain and directly reduce the use effect of the product.
7. The solution concentration is controlled at 1-3‰. If the concentration is too low, the product will not be effective. If the solution concentration is too high, it will be more difficult to dosing the metering pump, and the molecular chain cannot be fully stretched, otherwise colloids will be formed, reducing the use effect. Therefore, the solution concentration can be reasonably adjusted according to actual needs.
8. The dissolved aqueous solution is ready for use and cannot be placed for a long time, because over time, the aqueous solution will gradually degrade and its performance will gradually decrease. Therefore, it should be used as soon as possible.
9. When not dissolving the agent, it should be cleaned regularly, because some unsoluble dry powder will stick to the dead corner or bottom of the can, and it will have a better use effect after cleaning.
