Polyacrylamide (PAM): The difference between emulsion and dry powder

2020-05-20

Polyacrylamide (PAM) is available in both solid dry powder and emulsion form. At present, polyacrylamide (PAM) solid dry powder is widely used in China. Polyacrylamide (PAM) emulsions are used less often. Since many customers have not used polyacrylamide (PAM) emulsion and are not very familiar with its indicators and properties, then polyacrylamide (PAM) dry powder and polyacrylamide (PAM). What is the difference between lotion? Polyacrylamide (PAM) manufacturers will share this knowledge with you.

Polyacrylamide (PAM) emulsions were prepared by reversed-phase emulsion polymerization or dispersion method. It is divided into two types: water in oil and water in water, with a milky white appearance and liquid flow. Oil-in-water emulsion products are generally insoluble in water. Therefore, during the dilution and dissolution of polyacrylamide (PAM) emulsion, hydrophilic surfactants must be added to make the emulsion reverse phase when in contact with water, so that it dissolves in water. Water-in-water emulsion is very easy to dissolve, and its synthesis process is more advanced. However, when diluting and dissolving water-in-water emulsions with water, high-speed shearing must be used to make the hydrogel fully contact and disperse with water. If fully contacted and dispersed, the dissolution time is generally only 3-5 minutes. Water-in-water emulsion not only has the properties of polyacrylamide (PAM) solid products, but also has the same ionic forms as dry powder products, including cationic type (CPAM) and anionic type (HPAM).and nonionic type (NPAM). The solid content is 30%-45% of dry powder products. Since it is an instant product, the dissolution time is very short, only about 3-5 minutes. Its main advantages are: short dissolution time, wide pH range, easy to use, suitable for on-site without large dissolution equipment. Disadvantages: low content of solids and active ingredients, storage time of about 6 months.

Due to the different forms of emulsion products and dry powder products, their storage methods and precautions are also different. At room temperature, the storage period of emulsion products in a closed container is about 6 months, and attention should be paid to avoid light; The product inside the keg needs to be shaken regularly to prevent delamination. When large containers are stored, a circulation pump can be installed for regular stirring cycles to ensure that the mixing is not stratified; The storage temperature is between 10-27 degrees, and the product cannot be frozen, otherwise it will seriously affect the performance of use. If the product is frozen, it needs to be moved to a high temperature environment to thaw slowly. It should be thoroughly mixed and filtered through a 100-mesh sieve.
